BSNL has announced public launch of its music portal with Hungama.com facilitating legal music access at lowest cost. The service would provide unlimited music and videos for Rs 149/month and unlimited game downloads at Rs 49/month. WATBlog earlier reported the service introduction in March this year. The service has finally been launched on full-scale after a soft trial running for several months till now. The portal would allow users to sample, select and download videos and music tracks and play online games. The service is for BSNL telecom and broadband subscribers only and is available at bsnl.hungama.com ( powered by Hungama). How to register for it? Users have two options for registration: They can register through their BSNL broaband user ID and password or through their BSNL landline number. Although there is not enough clarity whether users will be able to download songs without any DRM protections. Their FAQ section coveys this: The music tracks, music videos and game files that are rented out under the Rental Subscription plan have been DRM protected. You can download your DRM-protected rental music tracks, music videos and game files onto your PC. You can enjoy this content on your local media players. At the end of each month, your subscription is automatically renewed so that you can enjoy your music, videos and games uninterrupted. The site has around 50,000+ songs in different genres and languages. Currently, the entertainment store offers some 200 plus games to its BSNL subscribers The tie-up between Major ISP’s and Online portals is common looking at the potential of VAS in such services. BSNL may accrue significant benefit as it is a pan-India telecom player with major presence in broadband and Mobile services. The service may also be criticized as non-core activity for BSNL but serves a major audience through music and games availability at lower prices. BSNL cuts local and STD rates by 50%

NEW DELHI: State-owned telecom service provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) today said it has slashed its local and STD rates by 50 per cent
allowing rural users to make calls at 40 paise per minute.

BSNL wireline customers would be able to call anywhere in the country through fixed telephone at Rs 0.40 to Rs 0.60 per minute, BSNL said in a statement.

"Rural customers who are paying 80 paise per minute can now call anywhere in India at 40 paise per minute and customers who are paying Rs 1.20 per minutes can now call anywhere in India at 60 paise per minute.

Moreover, all BSNL wireline customers would be given STD facility without any additional security deposit.

The new tariff had already been implemented throughout the Country from March 1, 2009.

Last year in the month of June, 2008 BSNL had reduced the call rates for intra circles calls to its fixed line network by 50 per cent and accordingly all intra circle calls to BSNL fixed/WLL could be made for duration of 120 second per pulse.

BSNL Launches 3G Mobile Service in Chennai Today(22.02.09)

Chennai: The state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd today launched its third generation mobile services in the country from here offering a plethora of services like live TV, high speed mobile broadband and movie download.
Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi marked the formal nation-wide launch by making the first video call to union communication and IT Minister A Raja.
The 85-year old DMK president, who is convalescing at a hospital here after a spine surgery, launched the services through video conferencing.
Lauding Raja, who belongs to the DMK, for unveiling the 3G services from Chennai, Karunanidhi said he was happy to note that BSNL was launching the technology, which so far was available in developed nations in the country.
Later speaking to reporters, Raja said the 3G services would be launched in 13 more cities -- Lucknow, Agra, Ambala, Dehradun, Jammu, Shimla, Jaipur, Jalandhar, Patna, Durgapur, Haldia, Ranchi and Bhubaneshwar -- by this month end.
The commercial launch of the 3G services in Tamil Nadu would be rolled out by 20 April, he said.
BSNL chairman Kuldeep Goyal described the 3G launch as an historic event for the company. The 3G services would offer customers video telephony, high speed internet and various value added services like mobile TV, location surveillance and video on Demand, he said.
MTNL had launched the service in December last year in Delhi.

BSNL's new tariff plan "India Golden Fifty", offering local and STD call at just 50 paise would be available from March 1. and the scheme, along with BSNL's 3G mobile services in the state, was launched by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.

BSNL Chairman Kuldeep Goyal told reporters that the Golden Fifty plan would be available to consumers for a monthly rent of Rs 375 inclusive of taxes.

He said the One India plan was being offered at Rs 330 per month plus taxes and the call charges were one rupee a minute whereas in Golden Fifty the charges are half. Similarly, all local SMSs would also cost just 50 paise.
